The Netcetera booth at the job fair in Skopje attracted a lot of visitor thanks to the AR app “Wheel of Code”, developed by Augment IT. The app is an Augmented Reality version of the classic wheel of fortune and is played using Holo Lens. We used the game to give the students a small prize if they answer the question correctly. This simple game attracted many students that wanted to try the AR experience and in addition learn something new about our company.

Early this may, Microsoft organized the first ever Mixed Reality Dev Days conference at their headquarters in Redmond, Washington and our developers Ferid Memed and Vidak Mijanovikj were there. Mixed Reality Dev Days is a developer conference focused on Microsoft’s Mixed Reality devices and services, and around 400 people from all over the world attended it.

Here they talk about their experiences and what they have learned:

[/fusion_text][fusion_separator style_type=”default” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” class=”” id=”” sep_color=”” top_margin=”20″ bottom_margin=”20″ border_size=”” icon=”” icon_circle=”” icon_circle_color=”” width=”” alignment=”center” /][fusion_images picture_size=”fixed” hover_type=”none” autoplay=”no” columns=”5″ column_spacing=”13″ scroll_items=”” show_nav=”yes” mouse_scroll=”no” border=”yes” lightbox=”no” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” class=”” id=””][fusion_image image=”https://augmentit.ch/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/IMG_7788-225×300.jpg” image_id=”3196″ link=”” linktarget=”_self” alt=”” /][fusion_image image=”https://augmentit.ch/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/IMG_7787-225×300.jpg” image_id=”3194″ link=”” linktarget=”_self” alt=”” /][/fusion_images][fusion_text columns=”” column_min_width=”” column_spacing=”” rule_style=”default” rule_size=”” rule_color=”” class=”” id=””]

“At the conference, we had the chance to try Microsoft’s newest MR device – the HoloLens 2. We were not only given the opportunity to try out simple demo applications which showcased the new, improved hand tracking, but we could also try deploying our own samples and applications. We managed to do so with little to no difficulty. Namely, we deployed our own samples, which leveraged the device’s eye tracking, which also worked quite well. Additionally, on the hands-on sessions, we succeeded in porting one of the applications, which was originally meant for the HoloLens 1 to the HoloLens 2 in a very short time.

The device itself is quite an improvement over the original HoloLens. Microsoft were not kidding when they said that they had improved the comfort and reduced the strain from wearing it by three times. It is now much more comfortable for wearing and practically does not require it to be put down during development, as the front visor can be lifted so that the lenses don’t cover the user’s field of view anymore. The field of view is also improved and Microsoft claim that they have developed a technology, which allows an unlimited field of view, and we are more than eager to see what they manage to do with it.

This was a very valuable experience for us, as we were able to get insights into the upcoming AR/MR technologies quite early and confirm our capabilities of working with them along the way. We are looking forward to getting our first HoloLens 2 device and increasing the value we offer to our customers even further.”

At the 7. MeetUp AR/VR/MR on “Best of ARKit & ARCore” in Bern on April 16 Reto Grob introduced the topic of the evening.

Both main mobile operating system creators Apple and Google have released Augmented Reality SDKs about one year ago. The MeetUp covered the current state of mobile AR development and took a look back to see what developers created with these frameworks.

We were at Smart Suisse in Basel on April 10-11 together with Jermann Ingenieure + Geometer.

The great potential of AR for planning and infrastructure management

Consider the possibilities: Equipped with an AR headset, public works employees can identify potential hazards at worksites and view relevant repair info, like where a water pipe is located in proximity to other infrastructure. Rather than expending precious time calling up data, workers will simply encounter information in the course of their regular activities. And city planners approaching a construction site can literally see the new building with a 3D floor plan.

Have a look at the video and see how Augmented Reality makes infrastructure structures visible on site.

Reto Grob was invited to speak at the Host Session “Innovative power as a key competitive advantage” powered by the health insurance company KPT at the FutureHealth conference in Basel, Switzerland on January 28. Reto presented our learnings from our AR showcase at Inselspital and explained how AR makes the invisible visible.

Thanks to KPT for inviting us. Many thanks to the participants for the lively discussions about how innovation and digitization can drive new solutions and how AR has the potential to make surgeries safer, for the best of patients.

Our Augment IT team members Zdravko Nikolovski, Ferid Memed and Vidak Mijanovikj supported the Global Game Jam with around 200 participants in Macedonia. Zdravko participated as judge. He presented our activities and introduced Magic Leap One and its potential to the enthusiastic audience. After the presentation, the jammers had the chance to try the AR glasses of Magic Leap. In addition to Zdravko’s support, Ferid and Vidak acted as mentors and shared their experience and know-how to the competing teams.

Global Game Jam is the biggest game development competition in the world. During the 48 hours marathon, around 50.000 competitors from 860 locations worldwide worked hard and rarely slept in order to make a better and more complete game. Netcetera supported two local events in Macedonia, where more than 200 hundred people joined the competition.

Our AR maintenance case for Müller Technologie is mentioned in the new book «Digitalisierung in Mobilität und Verkehr» written by Dagmar Reese.

The book deals with digitisation and its impact on mobility and transport, with a focus on rail and public transport. Dagmar Reese is a transport & technology expert and editor of the renowned Eisenbahntechnische Rundschau (ETR).

Checklist AR supports employees during maintenance and inspection. The digitized AR checklist helps maintenance personnel perform work of the same quality with less training and experience. Furthermore, data can be collected for the traceability of maintenance work.

At this years’ Omnisecure, the annual conference for smart ID solutions, organized in Berlin, our Head of AR Reto Grob was part of the speakers’ panel.

He presented how Augmented Reality can be used for omni-channel commerce and retail.
